Born in 1961, Vincent de Marly is an unusual artist. His talent as a fashion photographer sent him to China in 1985 to participate in the development of Elle International, as Director of Photography. Madame Figaro, Femmes, Gala, Elle Chine and other then opened their pages to him for photos which made him one of the top photographers of his generation. His world is women, their beauty and their singularity – and he has magnified it through his pictures, portraits and studio work. It is therefore natural that Yves Saint Laurent and certain renowned fashion designers, including Hervé Léger, Léonard, Guy Laroche and Azzedine Alaïa asked him to photograph their collections.
A resident artist at the Maegth Gallery since 1996, his research into new photographic printing processes and his paradoxal interest in the world of the visually-impaired, led him to create a project which combines his generosity and his art: « Toucher pour Rêver » (Touch to Dream).
An alchemist dreamer, through his completely new procedure of printing images in relief onto copper, Vincent de Marly is offering young visually-impaired people the ability to experience the faces of their favorite stars with their hands and finally associate an image with a symbol, a myth with his physical representation.
He has therefore photographed a variety of well-known artists for the world of cinema and music such as Monica Bellucci, Carla Bruni, Rosanna Arquette, Vanessa Paradis, MC Solar and more.
Discovering the Maghreb countries by doing a marketing campaign in 2004, he was immediately seduced by this universe. He realizes an exhibition at El Borj Gallery in Tunis, followed by several marketing campaigns and collaborates with young fashion stylists like Fares Cheraït as well as the Fashion Week Tunis.
Today, Vincent de Marly is living in Paris and we have asked him which one of his various images was his favorite: “I have not yet realized my favorite one, but I have already a concrete idea of what it will be”.
We are waiting impatiently!
